BiNe, the German Bisexual Network

BiNe, the Bisexual Network, is the only community of groups and individuals of the Bisexual movement in the area of German speaking countries.

The association is seated in Frankfurt/Main since 2005 (previously Potsdam). In 2006, it counted 140 members. It is a registered non-profit organisation.

BiNe is a pun on Biene, which means “bee” in German.

History

Since the early 1980s, bisexual women and men reflect upon their way of life and confidently support it as a legitimate option.

After the founding of several local support-groups, organizing early nationwide so-called “Bi Meetings” since 1988 and a republic-wide interrelation of Bisexuals supported by the Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe. (German AIDS aid), BiNe – Bisexual Network was founded on August 29th, 1992.

Work

BiNe e. V. provides education and public relation services concerning bisexuality, supports organizing and maintaining support groups, co-operates with relevant social groups and initiatives and collects and spreads relevant information.

Since 1994, the association publishes Bijou, the Bisexual Journal. It is not only a club member magazine, but also available in selected book shops, on CSDs, street partys and similar occasions and can be ordered or downloaded online.

The association offers psychological phone counseling. The web site offers up-to-date information for members and non-members and numerous contact options. A regularly updated list provides groups and contact persons throughout Germany. A web forum gives the public access to bisexuality-related discussion. The emerged online community reaches far beyond the actual limits of the BiNe association.

Each spring and fall, BiNe organizes Bi meetings of several days' duration open to everyone interested. The aim is to create a space with no need for explanations for a few days, supporting self-awareness and identity with topical workshops and shared leisure time.

BiNe is a member of the International Lesbian- and Gay-Association (ILGA) and integrated in an arising European Bisexual Network. There is a mutual membership with LNBi, a national associtation of bisexuals in the Netherlands.
